Godwin Ainobusingye, a second year student of Bachelor of Arts in Education at Kabale University has been declared the overall winner of the highly anticipated university Guild presidential Ilections.
Ainobusingye garnered 641 votes out of the 1,660 total votes followed by Derrick Abigaba who obtained 630 votes, Aidah Nakyejwe scored 247 votes whereas Micheal Barigye got only 142 votes.
Reports from an online News outlet, Parrots Ug, indicate that moments before the election process, their was a technical glitch in the E-voting system and this sparked anger among the voters, a situation that was calmed after police intervention.
A section of contestants led by Ainobusingye petitioned Amon Akampuriira, the Electoral Commission Boss seeking to postpone the election and this wasn’t successful.
Hours later the E-voting system was fixed and the online voting exercise started late in the evening at around 6pm and ended at 12am.
At the end of the day, One of the unsuccessful candidates, Abigaba Derrick was not satisfied with the declared poll results threatening to petition the Akampuriira commission for a recount.
