The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosted a drug development concept and opportunities webinar yesterday Friday at its main campus in Mbale city.
The dialogue under the topic “Drug Development:Concept and Opportunities” was organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation together with IUIU.
The dialogue’s chief guest was Dr. Monica Musenero, the minister in charge of Science, Technology, and Innovations. The Keynote Speaker was Dr. Danesi Hassan from Nigeria and the rector of IUIU Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda was the moderator.
Having shown disappointment in Ugandan Universities which she said are more theoretical than practical, Dr. Musenero said that the government is committed to supporting the development of drugs in the country. She said that drug development needs collaborations of various scientists and promised to support them.
The IUIU rector Prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda said that the university is ready to take on the task of developing drugs in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Technology. He hinted that the university has already started developing a product aimed at solving the problem of Covid-19.
IUIU has worked on several science projects through its laboratory called Motion Analysis Research Laboratory(MARL).
