Yesterday, local footballer Herbert Afaayo died on the football pitch in Lugazi when he collided with his teammate during training.
The young striker aged 21 was chasing the ball to score against his teammate Geoffrey Leku, who was the goalkeeper but when the two collided, he ended up losing consciousness and later died as the team tried to take him for serious medical treatment.
“He was chasing the ball at a terrible speed in order to score. He collided with the keeper and collapsed on the pitch…,”Daniel Segawa, the head coach of the team that was training, told a news outlet.
The footballer’s body was taken to Arua city where he is supposed to be buried.
