The government of Uganda has taken over Mountains of the Moon University that is based in Fort Portal.
Its take-over was approved in September 2021 and was put in action yesterday through a memorandum of understanding between the board of trustees and the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Representing the government, the state minister for higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo witnessed the handover of the university. He hinted that it was a landmark for the university.
“This can be counted among the achievements made by this government. The commencement of full operations as a public university will be in June this year…,” he said.
However, he hinted that the current authority will remain in charge of the University until the government takes full charge of the institution.
