The Ministry of Health is set to immunize about 8.8 million children below the age of five against polio.
The immunization exercise will be conducted door to door country wide and the exercise will start from Wakiso district because it has the highest number of children (80,000+) to be vaccinated and the exercise is set to begin on 14th to 16th January.
Local leaders and village health teams (VHT) will go door to door administering the to children below the age of five. About 8.8 million children under five will be vaccinated with novel oral polio vaccine. (n0PV2)
“Currently Uganda has 10 million doses and this will be administered to children for the first
round and the second round will be administered if they secure funds,” said Immaculate Ampeire, the senior medical officer in charge of immunization and vaccines in the ministry.
