Table leaders Vipers SC struggled to go past Bright stars FC in a Uganda premier league clash at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
The venoms opened the score through skipper Halid Lwaliwa with a header in the 10th minute. With an assist from young lad Bobosi Byaruhanga.
Vipers had clear chances to double the lead but all went to waste due to poor execution. Forward Milton Kalisa’s header hit the woodwork in the 25th minute and his other 40th minute attempt was cleared off the line.
Five minutes into the second half, the guests equalized through a penalty after Mugume was fouled in the penalty area. Ibrahim Kasinde sent the Vipers goalie Mutombara to the opposite side to put matters to a balance.
In the 57th minute Congolese forward Ceaser Manzoki reclaimed the Venoms with a bullet strike before Bobosi missed from the spot.
With a lot of missed clear goal scoring opportunities, Vipers remain top of the Uganda premier league table four points ahead of second place KCCA FC who visit Express FC in a Kampala derby today at 4:00pm.
In other matches played, at Barifa stadium newly promoted AruaHill SC strolled past Wakiso Giants 4-2 with a first half hatrick from Kawawa Rashid and Alfred Leku. Wakiso Giants scored through Ssematimba and Sam Ssenyonjo.
In an early kickoff today, SC Villa will host Busoga United At Njeru as URA travels to Mbarara to face off with the Ankole Lions.
