A 32-year-old businessman identified as Julius Matovu who was captured on video which spread all over social media platform kicking his wife has been charged with aggravated torture and domestic violence.
Matovu who severely beaten his wife appeared before the Chief Magistrates Court in Nabweru and was remanded.
According to Esther Nasaka, who is the victim says, she has been tortured for the last six years, which forced her leave and started living with her mother in wakiso District.
Fred Enanga, the mouth piece of Uganda Police says, there is an increase of domestic violence among families in societies, however he revealed that as police they are concerned to curb this.
“As the police, we are concerned that several incidents of domestic violence still go unreported, because of the much stigma and pressure women face from family members and other members of the public, for them to maintain the family unit and reconcile with their abusers,” Enanga revealed.
He added by urging victims of domestic abuse to always expose the act to the concerned personnel other than keeping quiet and continue with the torture.
“Tell somebody, if you are experiencing domestic violence, there are people who want to help you get out of it,” he said.
