Former government Chief Whip Thomas Tayebwa has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of 11th Parliament following elections that were held today at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Representing The National Resistance Movement (NRM), Tayebwa garnered 379 votes while his challenger, Moses Okot Junior, representing Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) got 82 votes.
He succeeds Rt. Hon. Anita Among, who was earlier elected the speaker to replace the late Jacob Oulanyah.
Having elected the Speaker and the deputy, the Parliament is expected discuss the burial of the late Oulanyah who passed on a few days ago.
