Famous director Richard Mulindwa premiered his new movie dubbed “Contention” on Maisha Magic Movies on 23rd March 2022. In this, he headlines singer Hellen Lukoma, Africa Movie Academy Awards winner Joan Agaba, Farouk Mutebi, and Andrew Benon Kibuuka.
In the movie, Blue(Hellen Lukoma) and Marley(Farouk Mutebi) are love birds but are only shuttered by Blue’s sister called Barbie(Joan Agaba) who takes advantage that Blue is cheating, to make Marley her own. When the two sisters are pregnant for Marley, Barbie must abort to save Marley from shame. Blue who gives birth to a baby boy hopes is optimistic that Marley and her will make up for the sake of the baby but her sister has already won his heart. In Blue’s disappointment when she finds out that Barbie betrayed her, the only decision she has got to curb her pain is suicide.
Mulindwa opens the plot in love and romance, twists it with betrayal, and shuts it down with tragedy. Using love and betrayal, he portrays the life that sisters go through when one decides to entrust another with her man, as an advisor.
Singer Hellen Lukoma could become the best actress across the African continent if she decides to put all her efforts into film than music. In Contention, he acts as Blue, receives love from Marley (Farouk Mutebi) but pours it down to another man and dies in regret.
Joan Agaba could receive more tomatoes and rotten eggs along the streets for getting away with other ladies’ men in some of her movies. In this, acting as Barbie, she steals her sister’s man and in the end, loses her. Talking to The Lens Media about the movie, Joan thinks
Farouk Mutebi is the next big thing in this industry. Acting as Marley, he managed to win the hearts of the two sisters, kept his word when he left one but is not heartless enough not to pay hospital bills for his newly born baby.
Talking to The Lens Media, Joan Agaba revealed that the team lost footage and they had to reshoot the movie. He said it was so challenging.
“My biggest challenge on that project was that we lost some of the footage and we had to reshoot. You don’t want to know what it means to execute a scene again. It takes a lot of concentration to fall back in character,” she said.
She however admitted that the role was fit for her and other actors picked on theirs as well.
“My role as supporting actress in contention was so satisfying and fulfilling. The whole experience was amazing because the team was solid and willing to work as one. Helen Lukoma and the rest of the actors were so supportive and at the top of their game…,” she said.
