Portugal finally qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Cup after hammering North Macedonia in a 2- 1 victory last night.
The team led by Christiano Ronaldo started with a shaky performance in what many described as a tug of war. As the match rose towards its first third half, the Portuguese made a difference with a strike from Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes who made it 1-0 in the first half.
The second half became tense when the Macedonians hyped pressure on the hosts. To curb the rising pressure, the hosts netted their second brace through Fernandes and kept the match at their watch till the final whistle.
North Macedonia had knocked out Italy in their previous match before they met Portugal. It is the sixth successive time that Portugal takes part in the World Cup.
Among the big teams that failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup are; Italy, the European Championships, Egypt, and Nigeria.
The teams that have qualified are; Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Croatia, England and Germany, Poland, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador, Ghana, Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Cameroon, Qatar (hosts), Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea, Iran, and Canada.
