How do you feel when you dont get what you want in life? Anger, frustration, terrible, defeated, devastated.. Most competitive individuals have an inherent desire to do their best. But what if your best is not recognized????? Sometimes I have been forced to stay away from competitive campus events because of the wrath of the losers towards the winners. As I write this piece, former friends are not talking to each other because during the weekend they didn’t place first or second during the just concluded cultural gala and sports gala. Is life only about winning????? Is getting an award the only parameter for success? What lessons do we also learn from loss or failure????
I think we can do behave better than this. If you know that you have always given your best in whatever you do; trust God and yourself and keep focused at what you do.
In any competition there will always be judges who will select that person or group they feel has been outstanding. That doesn’t mean that the others have done less. It if gives any comfort we are proud of all what the students have achieved this semester. My people, let awards not dictate how you are supposed to move on in life.
Many nice people deserve partners to treat them well but dont get the treatment they deserve. We get disappointed when we dont get what we want but that shouldn’t stop us from continuing to do our best. Be persistent. Only a fool would allow one disappointment to determine their entire course in life. Focus on the future ahead..try for another award, focus on the work you have got to do, success will follow you.
Remember that even though we have different points of loci (external and internal), our real self-worth should come from within.
