The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Education Secretary Sheikh Juma Bakhit Cucu yesterday made a impromptu visit to Kasawo Secondary School.
Cucu, who was received by Master Kizira Akuma Buseni, the acting Head teacher and his deputy Madam Namudira Hawa explained that he had just made a courtesy call.
Cucu informed his hosts about the ongoing School Inspection Program by the UMSC education department in which he wants to acquaint himself on the affairs of Muslim founded schools and institutions.
“I understand Kasawo SSS is one of the old Muslim founded schools but since I was entrusted to head the Education department in 2015, I haven’t received any one from here,” Cucu remarked.
Adding that “the archives show that its land title is fully registered in the names of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC as the foundation body and files indicate that the last Communications between the mother body and school was during the leadership of the late Master Kintu Kassim Lubowa in 1990s.
Cucu further noted that there are various existing gaps especially in the formation of the Board of Governors, which is unknown to UMSC.
Absence of reports on the management, academics and the Head teacher Madam Aziida Nsubuga who is away for months with no official communication,” he said.
He also noted that rumours circulating are doing rounds indicating that the BoG is attempting to sell part of the School land to National Water & Sewerage Corporation.
He called for closer coordination, formulization of some of the systems put in place and urged the school administration to explore the available opportunities such as applying for Scholarships for brilliant students from the Education office.
Buseni welcomed the visit and disclosed that indeed they have heard that the foundation body is UMSC. He proposed to fix a day for another meeting with the other stake holders so that issues at hand could be looked into, which Sheikh Cucu accepted.
