National Environment Management Authority( NEMA) has tasked all timber processing plants to present evident sustainable sources of wood before renewing their certificates and audits approval.
The directive kicked off today, according to the authority.
Barirega Akanwasah, NEMA executive director said that this is enable consolidation of national efforts to restore the environment.
He explained that the move will also help the national forest cover and curb rampant harvesting of immature trees.
According to Global Forest Watch,From 2001 to 2021, Uganda lost 967kha of tree cover, equivalent to a 12% decrease in tree cover since 2000, and 438Mt of CO₂e emissions.
