The First Deputy Prime minister and minster for East Africa Affairs Rebecca Kadaga who doubles as the Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli District at the weekend defied Parliament to attend Nyege Nyege festival.
Last week, there was a clash between the Parliament and the executive whether the festival would happen or not. Some Mps claimed that the event was immoral hence calling for it’s cancellation.
However, it’s decision was reversed by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja who said the event would continue.
Parliament however warned Members of Parliament not to attend the festival.
‘’I should not see any of you in the Nyege Nyege Festival .If you do, you will see, yet we’re the one who passed a resolution rejecting the event to take place,’’ The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa warned.
The warning however didn’t stop Kadaga from attending the event which was embraced by mammoth of revellers.
Kadaga justified her move, saying that whoever is against the Nyege Nyege festival in Busoga is against the development of the region.
She said she would not allow anyone to fight Busoga when she is in power.
‘’I would like to inform you that Nyege Nyege is mare festival which involve dancing, eating and it is the only festival which is organized in Busoga which generates income to Busoga. Many people are already here staying in our hotels give us money, so you should stop lying to people that its immorality in Nyege and our government is against immorality,’’she said.
The Nyege Nyege music festival is a three-day festival which took place 15th -18th September 2022 in Itanda falls in Jinja City.
