Nakiboneka Jalia of Lira University becomes the latest death case of boda boda accidents after being crashed dead by a Mercedes Benz trailer truck on Thursday around 2:30pm in Makerere.

“It is a dark day at LDC! We regret to announce the death of our student, Nakiboneka Jalia of Lira Campus, which occurred today at 2:30 P.M in Makerere Kavule. She was crushed by a trailer truck while travelling on boda-boda.”LDC said.
The Traffic Police Spokesperson, Faridah Nampiima said that the boda boda rider took off immediately after the accident with a few bruises while the deceased’s body was taken to city mortuary for postmortem.
Nakiboneka’s death happens approximately a week after State Minister of Lands, Sam Mayanja’s daughter Belinda Birungi was also knocked to death by a trailer while on a boda boda in Ntinda on 28th October.
The 2021 Annual Crime and Traffic/Road Safety report indicates that boda bodas killed 1918 people including riders and passengers in 2021.
This means five people were killed daily in accidents involving boda bodas according to the nilepost.
It should be noted that the un controlled boda boda accidents forced the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Anita Among, early this week to issue a directive to the deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi, to find a solution to reduce or control the accidents.
