Police in Kamuli have kicked off investigation into circumstances under which unknown assailants shot and injured the cashier of GM sugar weigh brigde and robbed him of Shs 95 million.
The incident took place at the GM Sugar weigh bridge premises located at Luzinga central 1 zone ,Luzinga parish,Wankole sub county in Kamuli district.
The victim has been identified as Kobil Goswami alias Hash.
At the time of the occurrence, Police said Goswami was at his residence a few metres from the weigh bridge.
It is alleged that two unknown armed assailants attacked the premises and took hostage of a staff identified as Moses Kirya.
Micheal Kasadha,the regional police spokesperson Busoga North said preliminary investigations suggest that upon limiting the freedom of the Kirya,the assailants coerced him into leading them to the residence of the cashier, which he did.
“Upon gaining access to their target, the attackers shot Kobil on the left shoulder demanding for money. They allegedly searched the house which yielded with access to Shs.95 millions, before they fled the scene,”said Kasadha in a statement.
He said the victim was rushed to Nile international hospital in Jinja for medical attention.
Police has apprehended five people identified as Moses Kiirya, Alex Waibale , Kiirya Malicana, Adam Baliruno and Ojole Painedo to aid in investigations.
