President Museveni has warned the youth in the country to refrain from politics and early campaigns ahead of 2026, advising them to focus on development and concentrate on activities that will transform their lives economically and socially.
Museveni made the remarks at the patriotism and youth investment symposium Investment organized by Uganda Investment Authority (UIA). The event took place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Saturday.
Museveni told the young people that elections will be discussed at the right time, calling upon them to utilize the available government programmes like Parish Development Model (PDM) Emyooga and other sectors such as ICT, commercial agriculture, services and industries.
Museveni was responding to some youths who were asking him to stand for president in 2026. Recently, a group of NRM youth from different parts of the country declared their support for Museveni ahead of the 2026 general election.
The group allied to the Office of the NRM National chairman and the Bazzulu Ba Museveni coordinator, Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, said Museveni is still able to lead the country.
President Museveni’s current term runs from 2021-2026 when the nation is expected to hold the next general election.
The president told young people to focus on something else other than early campaigns, adding that the government will support those who engage in wealth creation through those sectors.
“The issues of the election will come at the right time. I would like you to concentrate on what we are discussing here,”said Museveni re-echoing the NRM message of patriotism, Pan-Africanism by advocating for market integration through the East African federation.
He also called upon the young people to remain fit and healthy by avoiding reckless lifestyles, adding good health is a tool for creating wealth.
Museveni said the historic missions of the NRM forum are three including prosperity for all, strategic security for all and to achieve mission prosperity for all,
State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization, Anite Evelyn praised President Museveni for investing Shs 1.4 trillion in Parish Development Model in the last budget, which she said is the money going to the young people of Uganda.
“Mr President, when you were campaigning in the last election, you chose the theme; securing your future. Ours is to implement your manifesto to the letter. We are walking the talk. We are not here to do politics, “she said.
