The former Guild president at Islamic university in Uganda (IUIU) in the academic year 2021-2022 Hafdwar Kakande was awarded the prince Kakungulu award which is given to the best overall student.
This was during the 31st IUIU graduation held on Saturday 21st January 2023.
Kakande who is a fresh graduate from IUIU, with a Bachelor’s degree in arts Education expressed his excitement towards this achievement.
He revealed his core tips to his academic success amidst busy schedule.
In an interview with the Lens Media, Kakande attributed his success to his ambition of having first class and serving the student fraternity.
‘’It is the pressure I had to ensure that I had to balance between leadership and also, I had to serve my goals, because I had goals as a person for example the goal of getting a first class so I had to keep myself up there,” he said.

‘’Also, I had the interest of working for the students, so that pressure pushed me to be here today, but the most important thing is that I can’t forget Allah, because He wished me to have it, very many had the qualifications but Allah wished me,’’Kakande added.
Kakande also attributed his academic to his family background commonly known as “Gava family” which believes has supported him morally and financially.
‘’Prince Badir Kakungulu was a close friend with the Gava family, where I come from so I am very happy to win this Prince Kakungulu Award, great honor to me and my family, ‘he said.
Kakande said after the completion of his Bachelor’s level in Education arts, he plans to do a Master’s degree in the field.
He also plans to seek political office in Butambala district which he aims at elevating the status and improving the standard of living of the common people.

IUIU passed out a total of 1989 graduates from different disciplines out of which 1082 were female which represent 54% and 907 were male which represent 46%.
